In Vimmerby in Småland there is a very special place - Astrid Lindgrens Näs.

Here Astrid Lindgren, our most popular writer, was born and grew up. This is the place where she has been inspired for many of her stories and books. Here she heard the stories and met many of the people and the environments that then formed the stories in her books.

It was at Näs that she climbed in the lemonade tree and played with her siblings in the woodshed. It was here she was jumping in the hay and listening to stories in Kristin's kitchen. Most people have strong feelings for Astrid Lindgren and her books. She constantly meets new readers and continues to embody our view of mankind and the world. Her writing defy all boundaries as she is read by all generations in all continents. Astrid Lindgren has become a model for people all over the world, not just as a writer but also as a social critic and debater. With sharp pencil and confident voice, with humor and warmth, she struggled for the environment, children's rights and animal welfare.
Visit Astrid Lindgrens childhood home
In the 1960s, Astrid Lindgren restored her childhood home to the state it appeared when she was born and grew up here. Yes, even the vast majority of furniture found their way home again.

You will enter the environment that inspired the stories about Mardie, Bullerbyn and That Emil among other things. The gardens at Astrid Lindgrens Näs.
Since the summer of 2016, the newly built gardens are complete. These have emerged from the feelings and themes of Astrid Lindgren's authorship. The gardens are a place for culture, conversation, fun, debate, play, seriousness and humor. In the different garden rooms you can experience these moods, such as in the large bower, the “Mossträdgården” and the brook. In the gardens there are also works of art to view, including the American stick artist Patrick Doughertys “The Seven Wishes”.
